What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a specialized form of psychotherapy designed to help people heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. It focuses on reducing the emotional intensity associated with traumatic memories by helping the brain process these memories in a more adaptive and integrated way. During a session, we typically begin by discussing the troubling memory or issue that you want to address. Once the memory is identified, we will focus on it while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as following finger movements with your eyes or tapping alternately on each side of the body. I’ve found with clients that EMDR can be a helpful modality for healing and changes.

The processes within EMDR help rewire the brain’s response to the trauma, reducing its emotional charge over time. As the session progresses, you may experience shifts in emotions, beliefs, or bodily sensations, which I’m there to help you process and integrate. The goal is to help you come to terms with the trauma in a way that no longer negatively impacts your present life. Reach out today if you’d like to learn more about EMDR.
